Protest in Parliament obstruct house proceedings

Posted by Anup Baral December 03, 2015 :

The Legislature-Parliament meeting today was postponed due to obstruction by the MPs representing the madhesh-centric parties. Soon after the meeting began, some two hours behind schedule, the Madhesi MPs start chanting slogans. Despite repeated appeal from Speaker Onsari Ghartimagar to the MPs to take their respective seats, they continued chanting slogans in front of the seat of the speaker. The speaker had also assured to give them time to speak but in vain. Reminding them of the agenda of the day to table the Nepal Constitution (first amendment) bill, 2072, Speaker Ghartimagar urged them to resolve the problem through the parliament itself. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Kamal Thapa was also scheduled to apprise the parliament about the government view towards the present situation facing the country. As her continuous pleas did not receive any positive response from the MPs, Speaker Ghartimagar announced that the house meeting was postponed for 11:00 am tomorrow. RSS
