According to Human Rights Watch, Despite Papua New Guinea’s (PNG) current extractives-led economic boom, an estimated 40 percent of the country lives in poverty. Papua New Guinea is one of the most dangerous places to be a woman or girl, with rates of family and sexual violence among the highest in the world, Human Rights Watch said today in its World Report 2016. Gender inequality, violence, corruption, and excessive use of force by police, including against children, remain pressing human rights issues.
