Nepal is set to import 80 Megawatt of electricity from India through the Dhalkebar-Mujjafpur Cross Border Transmission line. The import is being made under the government's short-term policy of coping with the severe power outage in the country Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) signed the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) in this regard with the Indian Government 's nodal agency NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited (NVVN) on Monday. With this agreement, additional 80 MW of electricity will be linked to the national transmission grid from Tuesday. As per the agreement, the purchase rate is INR 3.44 (Rs 5.50) per unit. Additional Rs 1.53 paisa will be added to the purchase price as leakage fees. NEA Executive Director Mukeshraj Kafle and NVVN General Manager AK Maggu signed the agreement on behalf of their respective sides. The agreement was signed as the execution of the decision made by the second meeting of Joint Steering Committee of the energy secretary-level mechanism of both countries held on January 29. The fresh agreement on power purchase from India would address to some extent the problem of blackouts in the country, the NEA said in a press statement. RSS
