Nepal Buddhist Association Chairman Phupu Sherpa said a country like Nepal with diverse religious and cultural aspects needed to remain secular. He said he would not accept any other words in the constitution apart from secularism. Religious Chautari Nepal representative Tanka Subedi expressed concern that the draft constitution prohibited people from becoming atheists. An advocate hailing from India Robin Ratnakar David said Nepal remained at the forefront in the world in terms of the practice of freedom of expression and right to equality and said secularism would be best to not let such a stature go in vain.
